Last Friday, our school proudly took part in Walk Safely to School Day. It was fantastic to see so many students and families walking their way to school. A big thank you to our local Police for supporting the morning, and to our Student Representative Council for cooking up warm toasties for our early arrivals. This day serves as an important reminder about the benefits of active travel, road safety, and healthy habits.
On Wednesday, Alyangula Area School joined over 2.2 million students across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). This year’s book, "The Truck Cat" by Deborah Niland, told a heartwarming tale of friendship, courage, and finding your place in the world. Our students thoroughly enjoyed sharing in this story together, sparking great discussions around kindness, resilience, and belonging.
Next week marks National Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3), and we’ll be acknowledging this year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflecting the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Students will engage in meaningful classroom and yard activities that explore the importance of truth-telling, respect, and reconciliation. We encourage families to join us in reflecting on how we can continue to strengthen relationships and walk together towards a more just, equitable future.
Finally, you may have noticed more building works happening across the school. We’re in the process of replacing three large air conditioning units. During this time, some walkways and access routes may be disrupted. Students have been briefed to avoid construction zones, and a small number of classes will be temporarily relocated while units are lifted onto rooftops. Every effort is being made to ensure learning continues with minimal disruption.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Alyangula Area School Council are looking for a parent representative to lead a fundraising subcommittee.
The idea is to have a school presence at markets and other community events throughout the year. In addition to raising funds for the school it also provides a great opportunity to be involved in both the school and local community.
Please contact the school on 08 8987 6366 or email alyangula.admin@education.nt.gov.au regarding further information.
