Congratulations to our students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 who have completed their 2025 NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN is an important national assessment that provides valuable insights into student learning and helps guide teaching and school improvement. Today marks the conclusion of this year’s testing period, and we commend all participants for their effort and resilience throughout the process.
This week, we celebrated Harmony Week with a range of activities to recognise and appreciate the diversity within our school community. A big thank you to Mr Zane and the SRC for coordinating engaging break time activities, and to the families who contributed to our Harmony Week picnic by bringing in a plate to share. We were fortunate to have GEBIPCAC and Connected Beginnings open our picnic with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country, setting the tone for a meaningful celebration of culture and inclusivity.
Our pre-schoolers also had a very exciting week, heading off on their first excursion to the post office! They have been exploring how letters and parcels are sent, learning about the postal system, and writing their own letters and postcards. The highlight of the excursion was posting their letters and postcards in the mail—what a meaningful hands on learning experience.
This week also marked our first OCOC (Our Country, Our Culture) excursion, with students from Years 7–9 visiting Mud Cod Bay. Facilitated by GEBIPCAC, this excursion provided Anindilyakwa students with an opportunity to engage in language and cultural learning on Country. These experiences are invaluable in strengthening students' connection to culture and enhancing their learning beyond the classroom.
I would also like to inform our school community that Alyangula Area School is now operating under an Enrolment Management Plan, as we have exceeded our notional capacity. This ensures that students residing within the Alyangula community have priority access to education at Alyangula Area School, while enrolments from outside the Alyangula catchment will be assessed based on specific criteria, including sibling enrolments and year-level capacity. Anyone with questions regarding enrolments are encouraged to contact the school admin office for more information.
To wrap up Term 1, we will be holding SuperFunDay on Friday, 28 March, with a range of exciting activities planned to celebrate the achievements of the term. More information will be shared with families via our usual comms next week.
As we approach Term 2, we are also preparing for a very busy few weeks filled with long weekends and key school events. Please see our calendar below and take note of upcoming public holidays, school events, and curriculum days to help with planning.
A reminder that school will conclude for school holidays on Friday 4th March and resume for students on Day 1 of Term 2 – Monday 14 April.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement in school events. We look forward to a great finish to Term 1!

Harmony Week
This week at AAS we celebrated Harmony Week. Harmony Week is about making sure everyone feels welcome with the theme of this week being ‘Everyone belongs’. Some of the activities we did this week were Origami, Sumo Wrestling, Finger Knitting, AFL, Chinese Lanterns, Drum Competition, Just Dance Bollywood and a Staff vs Students Game of Grip Ball.
We enjoyed doing different things and spending time with our friends.
Alyangula Area School Council are looking for a parent representative to lead a fundraising subcommittee.
The idea is to have a school presence at markets and other community events throughout the year. In addition to raising funds for the school it also provides a great opportunity to be involved in both the school and local community.
Please contact the school on 08 8987 6366 or email alyangula.admin@education.nt.gov.au regarding further information.
