Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2025 school year! I’m pleased to share that Alyangula Area School has had a fantastic start to the 2025 school year, with students settling in well and classrooms filled with enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see so many returning families and to welcome new students and staff to our school community. We know that starting a new school year can be both exciting and a little overwhelming, and we appreciate the support from families in ensuring a smooth transition back into routines.
Students have been participating in the Starting Right Program, which focuses on setting clear expectations, routines, and learning dispositions that will support them throughout the year. This program helps students understand what is expected of them in the classroom, how to develop positive learning habits, and how to work together as a school community. Building strong foundations early on ensures that all students feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.
We are also excited to introduce several new staff members who have joined our team this year. Their expertise and fresh perspectives will be a valuable addition to our school. We appreciate the efforts they have already made in getting to know students and settling into their new roles, and we look forward to working together to create a supportive and enriching learning environment.
Welcome to the following staff members:
Ms Alli Wagstaff – Senior Teacher Inclusion
Ms Carlee Hill – Classroom Teacher 7/8/9H
Ms Jacinta Logan – Classroom Teacher 5/6L
Mr Alex Duyker – Classroom Teacher 3/4D
Ms Jess Gysberts – Classroom Teacher 2/3G
Ms Emily Brown – Classroom Support
Mr Tommy Wagstaff – Classroom Support
Ms Brooke Smith - Classroom Support
Our Meet and Greet sessions will be taking place on Tuesday 25th February, giving families the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and discuss learning goals for the year. These sessions are an important way for families and teachers to build positive communication and ensure that students feel supported both at school and at home. Individual times will be sent home on Monday, so please keep an eye out for your allocated session. If the scheduled time does not suit, please reach out to arrange an alternative.
A friendly reminder to return Local Permission Forms and Digital Technology Agreements if you haven’t already. These documents are essential for student participation in school activities, local excursions, and access to technology in the classroom. If you need a new copy of any forms, please contact the front office.
We are pleased to share that work will soon begin on rebuilding the classrooms and learning spaces that were damaged in the 2024 classroom fire. While this process will take time, it is an exciting step towards restoring these areas and ensuring our school facilities continue to support quality learning experiences. We will provide updates as the project progresses.
Finally, our Term Calendar has been released, outlining key dates, school events, and important activities happening throughout the term. This will be a great resource to help families stay informed and plan ahead.
I would also like to commend all students today for their attendance and participation at our first whole-school assembly in the ASEC Hall. It was wonderful to see our students, staff, and families come together to celebrate the start of the year. A huge congratulations to our 2025 student leaders, who led the assembly with confidence, clarity, and a strong sense of leadership. Their professionalism and enthusiasm set a great tone for the year ahead. Assemblies for Term 1 will be held in the ASEC hall each fortnight.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we begin another exciting year at Alyangula Area School. We look forward to working together to create a positive and successful year of learning for all students.
