From The Principal
Hello everyone! Week 4, Term 4 ALREADY!
Firstly, I would like to wish our wonderful teachers a Happy World Teachers Day for last Friday. The dedication and passion that our teachers bring to deliver quality education to our students is valued and appreciated. A special mention to Ms Gaynor, who was awarded the winner of the Northern Territory Primary Teacher of the Year. Congratulations Ms Gaynor, the whole school community is extremely proud of you and this prestigious achievement.
Over the last few months, we have been putting effort into ensuring our air conditioner systems remain on the radar with the department for repairing. The frustration when the air con systems fail is felt throughout the school community and compromises an optimal environment for learning. This week I have received information that the kitchen air conditioner is awaiting parts to arrive and will be repaired by the end the month, and the early childhood air conditioner is being replaced before the beginning of the 2023 school year. I understand this has been an ongoing issue for the school for many years, and am pleased we are getting some traction to have the issues resolved.
This week we held our student led conferences. It was wonderful to observe students share their learning journey with families and celebrate their successes. Thank you to our staff for providing such a welcoming environment for our families, and thank you to our families who attended and invested their time to support their child in there learning. It is intended that we will provide opportunities for families to engage in their child’s learning more regularly next year. We will be sending out a short survey this week via Seesaw to seek feedback on the student led conference to ensure we are making improvements to meet the needs of our families.
This fortnight we have had a strong focus on teaching and reminding our students about appropriate behaviour in the toilets. Unfortunately, there have been students who have been playing inappropriately and not being safe or respectful when using the bathrooms. We have increased our supervision in and around the toilets during break times and have been monitoring students using the toilets throughout the school day. Please continue to have the conversations with your children about privacy and being safe and respectful in the bathrooms. We have also reminded students this week that riding their bikes throughout the school is prohibited – both during school hours and after school hours. The basketball court is open for public use afterhours, however if students are on site after school hours they must be accompanied by an adult.
A reminder also to our school community - If you have questions or concerns, I urge you to please contact your child’s teacher or the school through the appropriate channels (SeeSaw, email, telephone, appointment at school). All our staff are bound by Northern Territory Government code of conduct policy and discussing school matters outside of the school environment places our staff in breach of this code. The parents are to bring the 4 awards to the front office and the student will be presented a Principal's Award at the following assembly.

Preschool Enrolment 2023
If you would like to enrol your child for 2023, your child must turn 4 before the 30th June, 2023. Enrolment forms are available on our website or at our front office. Along with the forms to be returned a copy of the following is required:
- Birth Certificate
- Immunisation Record
- Health Care Plan/Asthma Action Plan (if applicable)
Printed Preschool Handbooks are also available at the front office.
Preschool shirts & hats can be purchased from the front office that will be open in January 2023 (these dates will be communicated at a later date).
World Teachers' Day
Last Friday 28th October we celebrated World Teachers' Day. Our visitors Brent Potter (Member for Fannie Bay) and Joel Bowden (Member for Johnston) received a school tour from Hunter Booth & Ayva Ahovelo. The visitors also surprised us with a cake for the teachers, to celebrate World Teachers' Day.

Births, Deaths and Marriages Remote Circuit Program
Great News! The Births Deaths and Marriages Remote Circuit Program has restarted and are coming to Groote Eylandt during 14‑18 November 2022.
They partner with DriveSafe and the Australian Electoral Commission.
Did you know that you can get a copy of you children's Birth Certificate (or your own), register their children, or add dad to the paperwork and change their child's Surname.
